Over the next ten weeks Youth will discover what “Self-Identity” means to them and how various environments or upbringings could impact and guide one’s sense of self. Each Youth is invited to create their own iconic character and a meaningful story to share with their community. Together, we will brainstorm the conflict resolutions we wish to achieve in our story and emulate this emotional awareness in our own lives.
The First Few Weeks:
Youth have already begun to formulate their personal stories: powerful messaging about Canadian immigration, body dysmorphia, and even what it’s like to grow up in local shelters. Our Youth are brave, compassionate, and incredibly talented- we are honoured to encourage their artistic efforts.
Empowering Youth Through Collaborative Arts
The Comics Program emphasizes the importance of creative collaboration. Comics are cultural mirrors- they reflect the times we live in and the morals we hold dear. Participants will have a supportive space to discuss important social topics of our times while learning comic processes such as storyboarding, moral messaging, good copy line art and character creation.
