Starting our Filmmaking Journey

Our Film Lab program offers teenagers aged 12 to 18 a chance to learn about filmmaking while also developing important social and emotional skills. We’re excited to share the success of our recent filmmaking cycle at Cardel Rec South with our community.

In March, we started a new cycle of filmmaking at Cardel Rec South, and it’s been a hit! We have many enthusiastic teenagers participating, eager to learn and grow together.

Before making a film, there’s a lot of planning involved. In our program, we focus on getting everything ready before we start filming. This includes coming up with ideas, writing scripts, and creating storyboards. Our young filmmakers have been busy working on these important steps.

One of the best parts of our program is seeing how well the teenagers work together. Through group activities and workshops, they learn how to tell stories effectively and support each other’s ideas. Each person brings something special to the table, making the creative process even more exciting.

Filmmaking isn’t just about making movies—it’s also about learning important life skills. Throughout our program, we focus on things like communication, problem-solving, and understanding others’ feelings. These skills help our participants succeed both in and out of the filmmaking world.

As we continue with our Film Lab program, we’re excited to see what stories our participants will tell next. Every film they make helps them express themselves and find their place in the world. Together, we’re building a community where everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
