Our Cultural Fusion program launched in November, offering teenagers aged 12 to 18 an opportunity to explore and celebrate cultural diversity through art. This 6-week journey kicked off with a focus on understanding personal cultural identity and fostering connections through creative expression.
Week 1: Cultural Identity Exploration
In the opening session, participants explored their cultural heritage through blind contour self-portraits. Using graphite pencils, they created expressive artworks that highlighted unique cultural features, sparking rich discussions about the role of art in representing identity and the importance of cultural traditions.
Week 2: Cultural Sharing and Exchange
Building on the themes of personal identity, participants shared cultural customs and traditions through pencil crayon illustrations on cardboard. Each artwork reflected vibrant aspects of their heritage, allowing for meaningful cultural exchanges. Teens discussed how cultural practices shape identities and shared impactful cross-cultural experiences, creating a sense of connection within the group.
As the program progressed, these foundational activities set the stage for deeper discussions and creative explorations.
