We’re thrilled to announce that our much-loved Film Lab program is kicking off again next week! Starting on Tuesday, October 8th, at Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association, and Wednesday, October 9th, at The Salvation Army Community Resource Centre, we’re ready to dive into another exciting cycle of filmmaking with youth aged 12 to 18.
Both sessions will run from 4:30 to 7:30 PM, offering a creative space where young people can explore digital storytelling and discover the power of their voices through film.
What’s in Store for This Cycle?
This new cycle will focus on helping our participants develop both their artistic and social-emotional skills through the art of filmmaking. Each week, we’ll guide our budding filmmakers through the entire process—from generating ideas and writing scripts to storyboarding, filming, and editing.
At the heart of every session is the belief that filmmaking goes beyond the camera. It’s about collaboration, creativity, and self-expression. Whether they’re discovering new technical skills or exploring important themes like community, identity, or social justice, our participants will walk away with more than just a finished film. They’ll build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills that last a lifetime.
Building Connections and Stories Together
One of the most inspiring aspects of The Film Lab is watching how our young filmmakers collaborate. The process brings together unique perspectives, allowing each participant to contribute their ideas and creativity. By working together, they learn to appreciate different viewpoints and support each other through the challenges and triumphs of storytelling.
Join Us!
We’re so excited to see what this new group of filmmakers will create. If you or someone you know is between 12 and 18 years old and interested in learning the craft of filmmaking while building lasting friendships and life skills, join us next week for the start of our Fall Film Lab cycle!
Let’s make some incredible stories together.
