Our Mixed-Media program offers teenagers aged 12 to 18 an opportunity to explore their personal identities through art while developing essential social and emotional skills. We are excited to share the progress of our September sessions at the Antyx Community Hub.
In September, we kicked off the program by diving into various creative exercises, encouraging participants to reflect on their unique experiences and express their identities through art. Each week, we explored different themes that connect personal identity with social and emotional learning (SEL) goals.
One of the first activities was “Who Am I?” collage, where participants used a variety of art materials to represent their individual traits, experiences, and interests. This process fostered self-awareness and allowed them to visually articulate who they are. The teens then moved on to creating self-portraits, an exercise that encouraged them to reflect on how they view themselves and how they want to be seen by others.
A highlight of September was the creation of personal narrative comic strips, where participants told stories from their lives, illustrating significant moments that have shaped who they are today. This activity not only promoted storytelling skills but also allowed youth to explore how their identities have been influenced by their experiences.
Through art, we’re empowering each teen to explore their identity, express their perspectives, and contribute to meaningful conversations about who they are and how they fit into the larger community.
