At Antyx Community Arts, we’ve recently finished our 10-week podcasting program, aimed at fostering inclusivity and providing a safe space for youth aged 12 to 18 in the Thorncliffe Greenview Community.
Through our podcast, “The Film Lab – An Antyx Community Arts Society Podcast,” we’ve covered Socio Emotional Learning (SEL) topics with the attending youth, giving them the tools to share their voices with their communities.
Why is podcasting a good art medium for youth to express themselves?
- Sharing Ideas: Podcasting lets teens share their thoughts and experiences with others. They can talk about anything, from their daily lives to important issues, and reach listeners all over the world.
- Being Creative: Podcasting lets youth be creative. They can tell stories, interview people, add music—there are endless possibilities. This helps them think creatively and come up with new ideas.
- Building Confidence: Making podcasts helps youth feel more confident. They have to speak clearly and express themselves well, which boosts their confidence in speaking up, both in podcasts and in real life.
- Learning About Feelings: Podcasting is also a great way for youth to learn about their feelings and the feelings of others. They can talk about emotions, share stories, and connect with others on a deeper level.
- Connecting with Others: Podcasting brings people together. Youth can connect with listeners from different backgrounds and learn from each other. It helps them feel like they’re part of something bigger.
Podcasting is a fantastic way for teens to express themselves, be creative, build confidence, understand emotions, and connect with others.
At Antyx Community Arts, we’re excited to continue supporting young people as they discover the power of podcasting to share their voices with the world.
We are now preparing our new teen week cycles, where podcasting will continue to be offerred.
